Severe weather impacting the Lowcountry on Tuesday

UPDATE 8:33 PM: Tornado warnings in the News 2 viewing area have expired. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning remains for Charleston and Berkeley Counties.

Thousands of power outages have been reported across the Lowcountry, we’re also getting reports of numerous trees down in Mount Pleasant and across Dorchester County.

UPDATE 7:55 PM: A tornado warning has been issued for central Williamsburg County until 8:30 p.m., including Kingstree, Nesmith, Johnsonville, Hemingway and Kingsburg.

UPDATE 7:19 PM: Tornado warning issued for Berkeley, Dorchester counties until 8:00 p.m.

Dorchester, Saint Stephen, Harleyville, Bonneau, Eadytown, Cross, Northern Lake Moultrie, Bonneau Beach and Eastern Lake Marion. This warning includes I-26 between mile markers 173 and 186.

UPDATE 7:17 PM: Tornado warnings for Colleton, Dorchester counties have expired. Severe Thunderstorm Warnings continue until 8:00 p.m.

UPDATE 6:59 PM: A tornado warning issued for Charleston County until 7:45 including areas:

Johns Island, James Island, West Ashley, Folly Beach, Seabrook Island, Kiawah Island, Meggett, Rockville, Bennetts Point, Bears Bluff, Wadmalaw Island, James Island County Park, Yonges Island, Edisto Island and Maybank Bridge.

UPDATE 6:46 PM: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in place for Charleston and Colleton Counties until 7:45 p.m.

UPDATE 6:29 PM: A tornado warning issued for Colleton and Dorchester Counties until 7:15 p.m.

Locations impacted include: Saint George, Colleton, Harleyville, Reevesville, Smoaks, Lodge, Williams, Crocketville, Ruffin, Miley, Ashton, Canadys, Islandton, Padgetts and Almeda Intersection.

This warning includes the following interstates: I-26 between mile markers 172 and 174. I-95 in South Carolina between mile markers 60 and 82.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is active for Williamsburg County until 7:15 p.m.

UPDATE 6:00 PM: Tornado warnings cleared for areas in the News 2 viewing area. A tornado watch remains in place. A severe thunderstorm warning is in place for Berkeley County until 7:00 p.m.

UPDATE 5:18PM: A tornado warning has been issued for Colleton and Dorchester counties until 6:00 p.m. Warned area includes Saint George, Reevesville, Smoaks.

UPDATE 4:59PM: The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for portions of Hampton and Colleton Counties until 5:15 p.m.

4:00 PM: A tornado watch has been issued for Charleston, Berkeley, Colleton, Dorchester and Orangeburg counties until 9:00 p.m.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Storm Team 2 is tracking a threat of severe weather on Tuesday.

A storm system will sweep across the region on Tuesday bringing with it a higher-than-normal risk of severe thunderstorms during the later afternoon and early evening.

While the day will start off sunny, warm and breezy, Storm Team 2 said there will be increasing chances for thunderstorms after 3:00 p.m.

Threats include pockets of wind damage, isolated tornadoes, and some hail possible across parts of the Lowcountry through about 9:00 p.m.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Sunshine, warm temperatures, breeze start to the day
  • Strong to severe storms develop in the afternoon through evening
  • Greatest risk is 3:00 p.m. through 9:00 p.m.
  • Threats include wind damage, isolated tornadoes, some hail

Scattered strong storms are expected to develop again on Wednesday during the afternoon and evening hours.
